We haven’t forgotten the sacrifices

Memorial Day quotes: We haven’t forgotten the sacrifices

'And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me'...can you imagine what kind of deeds could inspire such feelings in a whole nation? Must be the bravest type, we are left to wonder that can we expect to be half as selfless as those who fought and died for us? They were heroes and that's the way they'll stay forever, in history and our hearts.
Memorial Day or Decoration Day as it was known before it marks the day that we remember and honor the sacrifices made by U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service and it’s observed on the last Monday of May.
The first Memorial Day was on May 30th, 1868. It was called "Decoration Day," and was created by civil war general, John Logan. Gen. John Logan wanted the day to help mend the relationship between the North and the South after the Civil War.
Gen. John Logan chose May 30th for two reasons. The first being that it was a day that no Civil war battles took place on, and second, he thought that flowers would be in bloom all over The United States.
Though the Memorial Day has been celebrated for over the past hundred years, yet it wasn’t until 1979 that it became an official federal holiday in America.
